Talks around the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 have been circulating for a while now. Earlier leaks suggested that the device could debut in July this year — around the same time as its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which launched last year. Now, a fresh rumour has shed light on the upcoming book-style foldable, hinting at incremental upgrades, along with details about its design and weight. The device is also expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
What we can expect from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8
Tipster yeux1122 posted on the Korean blog site Naver that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could have a “crease-free” display. In simple terms, you won’t notice any “valley” or bump where the smartphone folds. Citing industry sources, the tipster suggested that the upcoming foldable could feature a slightly wider design, although the change is said to be minimal.
The South Korean tech giant is said to be introducing a new hinge design. The purported device is expected to be around 0.5mm thinner when folded. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is also expected to be lighter than the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The Galaxy Z Flip 7’s weight is 188g, and the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to weigh around 180g.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is rumoured to be powered by Samsung’s new Exynos 2600 chipset, aligning with the company’s recent approach of equipping its clamshell-style foldables with in-house processors, while reserving Qualcomm chips for its Galaxy S-series flagships.
In terms of battery, the device is expected to retain the same 4,300mAh unit as its predecessor, along with 25W charging support, suggesting no major upgrades in this area.
As for the rest of the hardware, the core specifications are tipped to remain largely unchanged. The camera setup is likely to stay the same, with previous reports pointing to a dual rear camera system featuring a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, along with a 10-megapixel selfie camera on the main screen.
Other components such as the vibration motor, speakers, and outer display are also expected to see little to no changes.
As for the launch timeline, the next Galaxy Unpacked event is rumoured to take place on July 22 in London, where Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and the purported Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. However, the company has yet to officially confirm these details, so it’s best to take this information with a pinch of salt.
