Roblox launches two programs to bring new games to older players: Here’s what it means for users

Roblox has introduced two new initiatives, the Incubator Program and the Jumpstart Program. The company aims to support developers in creating new types of games and enhance the platform’s appeal among older users through these new programs. The programs are intended to help creators develop titles with gameplay mechanics, visual styles, and genres that differ from traditional Roblox experiences.

The company said the initiatives will support the development of games in genres such as role-playing games (RPGs), strategy titles, and shooters, as Roblox responds to changes in its user demographics. The platform is seeing growth among users aged 18 and above, prompting a focus on experiences designed for older audiences.

What are Roblox’s two new creator programs and how will they work

The Roblox Incubator is a six-month program structured around development milestones. It is intended for experienced teams working on new game concepts and aims to help them develop these ideas into finished and scalable titles. Participants will receive guidance from experts at Roblox, including mentorship and support in building an audience for their games.

Meanwhile, the Roblox Jumpstart program is designed for creators who are new to Roblox as well as experienced developers interested in experimenting with new game formats.

Applications for Jumpstart are now open and will be accepted on a rolling basis. Game pitches will begin in person at this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) and continue afterwards on an ongoing basis. Participants will also receive access to Roblox subject matter experts and assistance with user acquisition initiatives, both on and off the platform.

Roblox said its technology roadmap is focused on providing tools that allow developers to build more detailed and complex game environments. Technologies such as SLIM (Scalable Lightweight Interactive Models), texture streaming, and server authority are intended to help developers create visually detailed worlds that function across multiple devices.

According to the company, 45% of its daily active users had completed age verification as of January 31, and 27% of that group are over 18. The company said the 18–34 user segment in the US is growing at more than 50%, more than twice the growth rate of the under-18 user base, and generates around 40% higher monetisation. The new programs aim to help developers create games for this growing demographic.

Commenting on the new programs, Vlad Loktev, Chief Creator Ecosystem Officer at Roblox, said,
