Neuralink Patient 4’s Wife Reveals Truth Behind Disappearance Rumors

Neuralink Patient 4’s Wife Debunks Disappearance Rumors, Reveals Real Health Struggle

The wife of Neuralink’s “Patient 4” has spoken out against false conspiracy theories, confirming her husband is battling ALS at home while the company continues to provide support. Mike Melgarejo, who received Elon Musk’s brain chip implant, chose to step away from social media to maintain privacy during his health decline.

Key Takeaways

  • Mike Melgarejo (Patient 4) is alive and receiving Neuralink support at home
  • Family opted for privacy during his ALS progression, leading to false rumors
  • GoFundMe campaign addresses genuine financial hardship, not conspiracy
  • Neuralink executives have donated to the family’s medical fund

The Real Story Behind the Disappearance Claims

Dalila Melgarejo broke her silence after online speculation suggested her husband had vanished following his Neuralink implant procedure. “Our family is really going through something terrible,” she told Daily Mail. “My husband is eventually gonna die within a year or two, and there’s nothing that anybody can do to help him.”

The 44-year-old survey technician from San Diego was diagnosed with ALS in 2022. The fatal neurological condition has been gradually paralyzing him and affecting his speech. Despite the brain chip implantation in February, which briefly allowed him to work remotely using his mind, his health has continued to decline.

Social Media Silence Sparks Investigation

Independent journalist Audrey Henson raised concerns in her Substack video “Where TF is Patient Four?” noting Melgarejo’s absence from social media while other Neuralink patients actively shared their experiences. However, the Daily Mail confirmed Melgarejo deactivated his own X account before the implant procedure.

Henson highlighted the timing between Neuralink’s June 2025 promotional video showing Melgarejo thriving and the GoFundMe campaign launched the same month describing him as “ready to give up on life.” She suggested this could indicate unreported complications, though the family denies these claims.

Family’s Financial Struggle and Neuralink Support

The Melgarejo family went public with their situation in late June when Mike could no longer work. “Even having two incomes coming in with a child, it is just overwhelming at times,” Dalila explained. “We hit a very rough patch where we couldn’t even pay our rent in July.”

Friends have been searching for a wheelchair-accessible home as their current second-floor apartment makes medical visits nearly impossible. The GoFundMe campaign, organized by family friend Ryan Biggs, aims to support them through 2025.

Despite conspiracy theories, Dalila maintains Neuralink has been “a godsend,” with regular checkups every three months. “They helped a lot with setting up his monitor, getting him comfortable, just really helping us with what we need,” she said.

Controversy Over Executive Donation

Records show Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis donated $3,000 to Melgarejo’s fundraiser, which Henson suggested could represent a conflict of interest under FDA regulations. Neuralink has not responded to Daily Mail’s requests for comment on the allegations.

Dalila expressed disappointment that the rumors might be affecting donations to their medical fund. “If this is why people stop donating, I don’t even have the words for it,” she said. “What’s happening to us, what’s happening to Michael, is very real.”

The family hopes to move past the speculation that emerged this fall. “People need to stop making stuff up,” Dalila concluded. “Sometimes when people make assumptions, they create something out of nothing.”
