ISRO Delegation Visits Mauritius to Advance Joint Satellite Project

A high-level ISRO delegation has concluded a three-day visit to Mauritius, marking significant progress in the bilateral India-Mauritius Joint Satellite initiative. The visit included technical sessions with the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC) and the 4th Joint Working Group meeting for the satellite program.

Key Developments

  • Half-day collaborative workshop attended by Mauritian Minister Kaviraj Sukon and Indian Deputy High Commissioner Aparna Ganesan
  • Renewed commitment to ISRO-MRIC cooperation on telemetry and tracking

Strengthening Bilateral Space Cooperation

The recent visit builds upon discussions held during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s March visit to Mauritius, where both leaders acknowledged the mutual benefits of space cooperation. Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam expressed appreciation for India’s support in joint satellite development, calling it a testament to India’s unwavering support for Mauritius’ developmental journey.

Comprehensive Space and Climate Initiatives

Both nations have committed to multiple cooperative projects:

  • Successful development and launch of the India-Mauritius satellite
  • Training for Mauritian scientists and experts at ISRO facilities
  • Implementation of advanced weather and climate forecasting systems
  • Deployment of Wave Rider Buoys and Multi-hazard Emergency System
  • Earth Observation Application for monitoring extreme weather events

The Earth Observation project will be implemented by ISRO and the Indian Ministry of Earth Sciences under the QUAD framework, enhancing Mauritius’ capability to study climate impacts and build resilient disaster response systems.
