India Mobile Congress 2025: Digital Leadership and 6G Roadmap Revealed

India Mobile Congress 2025 Concludes, Showcasing Digital Leadership

The India Mobile Congress 2025 concluded in New Delhi on October 11 after four days of intensive discussions and technology demonstrations. Asia’s largest telecom forum highlighted India’s transformation into a global digital leader with major announcements on 6G development, satellite communications, and indigenous innovations.

Key Takeaways

  • India now has 1.2 billion mobile subscribers (20% of global population)
  • Broadband users surged from 60 million (2014) to 944 million today
  • Mobile data costs dropped by 98% over 11 years
  • India building world’s largest digital highway infrastructure

Leadership Vision and Digital Transformation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event, emphasizing India’s progress in indigenous technologies through initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India. “Today, with government support, Indian industry, startups, and academia are working together across many sectors. Bharat is moving forward in every dimension. India is emerging as an effective platform for innovation and progress,” PM Modi stated.

He highlighted this as the optimal time for investment and innovation in manufacturing, semiconductors, and mobile technology.

Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia declared India’s transition from “technology taker” to “digital flag bearer of the world,” citing the country’s massive connectivity expansion and cost reductions.

Satellite Communications Breakthrough

IMC 2025 featured India’s inaugural Satcom Summit focused on “Space Networks for Universal Connectivity.” Scindia emphasized satellite communication as a national necessity, stating: “Satcom means a doctor in every home and a teacher in the remotest classroom. With the first-of-its-kind NISAR mission, we showcased how we are not merely participating — we are innovating. India has become the world’s pace-setter.”

6G Development and Global Partnerships

India is advancing toward 6G trials while focusing on 5G utilization. The International Bharat6G Symposium saw global alliances including Bharat 6G, Next G Alliance, and 6G Forum issue a joint statement endorsing principles for trusted, secure, and inclusive 6G design.

Ashutosh Dutta, Chief 5G Strategist at Johns Hopkins University, highlighted ubiquitous connectivity as a key 6G pillar, with satellites playing crucial roles in remote areas.

Technology Innovations and Infrastructure

Major companies unveiled cutting-edge technologies:

  • MediaTek: Dimensity 9500 flagship chipset for next-gen 5G smartphones
  • Tejas Networks: Indigenous Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) technology ready for deployment
  • BSNL: 5G pilot project complete, services launching soon

The Department of Telecommunications is finalizing Satcom regulatory frameworks, while ISRO aims for parity with developed space nations by 2040 in launch capability and satellite technology.

The event demonstrated India’s emergence as a global innovation hub in digital connectivity and next-generation telecom technologies, positioning the country at the forefront of the digital revolution.
