Google Cuts Free User Limits for Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro

Key Takeaways

  • Free users now get only 2 Nano Banana Pro images per day, down from 3.
  • Gemini 3 Pro free access is now labeled ‘basic’ with unspecified limits.
  • NotebookLM’s Infographics and Slide Decks features are temporarily unavailable.
  • AI Pro subscribers maintain 100 daily Nano Banana Pro image generations.

Google has significantly reduced daily usage limits for its popular Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro AI models for free users, citing overwhelming demand and capacity constraints.

The new limits, detailed in a recently updated usage guide, slash free-tier access. Nano Banana Pro image generation is now restricted to just 2 images per day, down from the initial 3. Meanwhile, Gemini 3 Pro access for free users is now described only as ‘basic access,’ with specific prompt limits unclear.

Capacity Constraints Force Limits

Google confirmed the changes are due to high demand. “Image generation and editing is in high demand. Limits may change frequently and will reset daily,” the company stated.

Further impacting users, Google has temporarily disabled Nano Banana Pro-powered features in NotebookLM, including the popular Infographics and Slide Decks tools. These features were designed to transform complex documents like research papers into visual summaries.

“Due to the overwhelming demand, we’re experiencing some capacity constraints… however we plan on bringing everything back to normal as soon as we can!” the company added.

What Free and Pro Users Get Now

For free users seeking alternatives, Google still permits up to 100 daily images using the older Nano Banana model. They can also perform up to five Deep Researches daily using the Gemini fast model.

AI Pro subscribers remain largely unaffected, retaining the ability to create up to 100 images per day using the advanced Nano Banana Pro model.
