How Gemini’s Video Generation Works

In a recent demonstration shared on the official Made by Google X account, the company showed how Gemini transformed an image of two houseplants into an animated invitation video. The prompt “Two animated house plants inside this home invite us to a housewarming party at Emily’s this Sunday at noon” resulted in an 8-second clip where the plants appeared to talk and move naturally with background music.

The social media post stated: “Create an invitation right from your imagination. With video generation in the @GeminiApp you can turn simple descriptions into high-quality, 8-second videos with sound effects and dialogue. You can even work off your own images.”

Accessibility and Subscription Requirements

Currently, Gemini’s video-generation capability is restricted to paid subscribers of Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra plans. Free users cannot access the full video creation feature, though Google has occasionally run limited-time promotions offering complimentary generations.

According to Google’s official documentation, personal account holders must maintain an active Pro or Ultra subscription to use video generation. While some regions previously offered free trials, no ongoing free access is currently available.

Free Access Through Reliance Jio

Indian telecom provider Reliance Jio has introduced an exclusive offer bundling an 18-month Google AI Pro subscription (valued at over ₹3,500) with eligible 5G Unlimited plans priced at ₹349 or higher. This promotion covers both prepaid and postpaid customers, providing free access to Gemini’s premium features including video generation.

To maintain the complimentary Google AI Pro service, subscribers must remain on an eligible 5G Unlimited plan throughout the entire 18-month period.
