Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed Google’s decision to establish a $15 billion AI hub in Visakhapatnam, calling it a significant step toward building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). The announcement marks Google’s largest investment in India to date.

“Delighted by the launch of the Google AI Hub in the dynamic city of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh,” PM Modi said on X.

“This multi-faceted investment that includes gigawatt-scale data center infrastructure, aligns with our vision to build a Viksit Bharat. It will be a powerful force in democratizing technology. It will also ensure AI for All, delivering cutting-edge tools to our citizens, boosting our digital economy and securing India’s place as a global technology leader!” PM Modi said, responding to Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s post.

Massive Investment for AI Infrastructure

Google revealed it will invest approximately $15 billion over five years (2026-2030) during the ‘Bharat AI Shakti’ event in New Delhi. This represents the company’s most substantial commitment to India’s growing digital ecosystem.

What the Visakhapatnam AI Hub Will Include

The Google AI hub in Visakhapatnam will feature a purpose-built data centre campus with gigawatt-scale computing capacity to meet India’s and global demand for digital services. The facility is being developed in partnership with AdaniConneX and Airtel.

The infrastructure will utilize the same cutting-edge technology that powers Google products including Search, Workspace, and YouTube. When completed, the campus will join Google’s global network of AI data centers spanning 12 countries.

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani expressed pride in partnering with Google to build what he described as “India’s largest AI data centre campus.”

The project represents a major milestone in and positions India as a significant player in the global artificial intelligence landscape.
