Agnikul Cosmos Raises Rs 150 Crore for Reusable Rocket Development

Key Takeaways

  • Agnikul Cosmos raised Rs 150 crore at a valuation exceeding $500 million
  • Funding will accelerate development of reusable rockets and scale launch frequency
  • Company plans integrated space campus on 350 acres in Tamil Nadu

Space technology startup Agnikul Cosmos has secured Rs 150 crore in fresh funding, pushing its valuation beyond half a billion dollars. The IIT-Chennai incubated company will deploy the capital to build reusable launch vehicles and expand its manufacturing capabilities.

Investor Backing and Strategic Vision

The funding round attracted participation from institutional investors and family offices including Advenza Global Limited, Atharva Green Ecotech LLP, HDFC Bank, Artha Select Fund, Prathithi Ventures, and 100X.VC.

“This fund raise allows us to work on such missions while also focusing on scaling launch frequency and building for the world, from India,” stated Srinath Ravichandran, CEO and Co-founder of Agnikul Cosmos.

Capital Deployment and Expansion Plans

Agnikul will utilize the funds to:

  • Scale production units for aerospace and rocket components
  • Advance its stage-recovery programme for reusable rockets
  • Strengthen reusable launch architecture using recently granted patents
  • Develop an integrated space campus on 350 acres allocated by the Tamil Nadu government

The upcoming campus will feature end-to-end facilities for manufacturing and testing launch vehicle systems.

Market Position and Growth Strategy

“With growing demand and more than a dozen customers eager to launch with us, scaling our operational depth was the natural next step,” explained Moin S P M, Co-founder and COO of Agnikul. “The indigenous facility, planned near India’s new upcoming launchpad, will equip us to serve these missions on schedule.”

Agnikul demonstrated a sub-orbital rocket launch last year and plans to deploy small satellites into low Earth orbit using its 3D-printed Agnibaan rocket next year. The startup is developing technology to recover and reuse the lower stage of launch vehicles for subsequent missions.

The company serves customers across India, the Middle East, and Australia, positioning itself to meet globally distributed launch demand. Recently, Agnikul announced a new large-format metal additive manufacturing unit that will expand 3D printing capabilities to multiple subsystems beyond engines.
