Perplexity’s Chrome-killer browser can buy stocks for you on Zerodha? Arvind Srinivas reacts to viral Reddit post

A Reddit post claiming how Perplexity’s Comet Browser executed stock trades on Zerodha and even applied for an IPO using simple AI commands has drawn attention online, after CEO Arvind Srinivas shared it on X (formerly Twitter).

The post, shared on r/developersIndia, claimed that a user was able to place an order by typing “buy MOCAPITAL, qty: 50 on Zerodha,” which Comet carried out without any manual clicks. The user said they later asked the tool to apply for the LG Electronics IPO, and that too was processed automatically. “I honestly couldn’t believe what Comet had just done, it was a surreal experience and really felt like living in the future,” the post read.

Srinivas highlighted the experiment on X, pointing to how the browser is now capable of executing real financial transactions through natural language prompts. The Perplexity CEO wrote ‘Pretty cool. Comet is the future.’

Comet is an AI-powered, agentic web browser that acts as your personalized online assistant, capable of summarizing content, answering questions about web pages, and automating complex online tasks on your behalf.

Arvind Srinivas, a Chennai-born who’s leading Perplexity AI, got crowned the youngest billionaire in the country last week after featuring on the M3M Hurun India Rich List 2025 with a net worth of Rs 21,190 crore. It called his rise a marker of India’s shift from a services-centric economy to a deep-tech, product-led powerhouse. His fortune comes not from inherited wealth or traditional industries, but from building a foundational AI model competing with global giants.

Founded in December 2022 alongside co-founders Denis Yarats and Andy Konwinski, Perplexity AI is an AI-powered answer and search engine that provides synthesized, fact-based answers to user queries with real-time citations from the web. It combines a conversational chatbot with web search capabilities to deliver concise information and references from sources, rather than just a list of links, making it a useful tool for education, research, and business applications.
