IND vs WI T20 WORLD CUP 2026: HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARD

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir faced heavy trolling after India sealed their spot in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2026. On Sunday, March 1, India defeated West Indies by five wickets in their Super 8 clash at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, chasing down a challenging 196 with four balls to spare.

Earlier in the tournament, Amir had claimed that while Pakistan might or might not qualify, India would definitely not reach the top four. “Pakistan will qualify. Dekho, Pakistan kare na kare, India naaaa (It doesn’t matter if Pakistan qualifies or not, India will not),” he said on Haarna Mana Hai, leaving even the show’s anchor surprised.

India, however, responded strongly on the field. They began their Super 8 campaign with a painful 76-run defeat against South Africa. But they made a stupendous comeback, beating Zimbabwe at the Wankhede Stadium, and then outclassed West Indies to book their semifinal berth. After India stormed into the last four, fans took to social media to call out Amir for his premature prediction.

Here’s how Mohammad Amir was trolled by fans

India registered their highest successful chase in T20 World Cup history and the highest run chase ever recorded in T20Is at Eden Gardens to have the last laugh. The emphatic victory not only underlined their batting depth but also showcased their composure under pressure on a big stage.

The win carried added significance as it served as redemption for their painful exit in 2016, when West Indies knocked them out in the semifinals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This time, India turned the tables in style, rewriting records at the iconic Kolkata venue and settling old scores in the process.

HOW SAMSON PLAYED A BLINDER IN KOLKATA

Samson produced the innings of his life to power India past West Indies in the high-pressure Super 8 clash. Chasing a daunting target with no Virat Kohli in the XI and history stacked against them, India were rattled early as Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan fell cheaply inside the powerplay. At 41 for 2, tension gripped Eden Gardens.

Samson responded with remarkable composure. He crafted a sublime 97 off just 50 balls, striking 12 fours and four sixes, anchoring the chase with authority and calm. Rather than forcing the issue, he built the innings methodically, controlling the tempo and ensuring the required rate never spiralled.

His 58-run stand with Suryakumar Yadav steadied the innings, while cameos from Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube provided support.

Samson remained unbeaten as India completed a record chase in 19.2 overs, delivering a masterclass in temperament and finishing under immense pressure. With seven required off six balls, Samson smashed Romario Shepherd for a six over the leg side and then lofted the winning runs over mid-on to seal the chase in style.

Samson will look to carry his form forward when Suryakumar’s India take on Harry Brook’s England on Thursday, March 5, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
