Shikhar Dhawan has strongly criticised the circulation of false statements about his personal life following his second marriage to Sophie Shine. The former India opener recently tied the knot again after separating from his former wife, Aesha Dhawan, in October 2023.
The controversy erupted after a viral social media post claimed that Dhawan had said his ex-wife once told him that no one would marry him after she left. The post further suggested that by remarrying, Dhawan had delivered a fitting reply. However, the cricketer has firmly denied making any such remarks and has urged people not to associate fabricated statements with his name.
Taking to social media, Dhawan issued a clarification, expressing disappointment over the spread of misinformation and calling for positivity.
“I have come across some posts on social media attributing a disappointing statement about my personal life. I have never carried baggage from the past, be it on the pitch or outside. I firmly believe in the power of positivity while respecting my past,” wrote Dhawan on his social media accounts.
“This is a new chapter in my life, and I feel truly grateful for the love and blessings I have received from my fans, friends, family, well-wishers and the media. I strongly urge people not to trade on my name with clickbait, insensitive and false statements on social media. Let’s spread love and positivity. Thank you!,” he added.
Dhawan’s response has been widely appreciated by his supporters, who lauded him for addressing the issue calmly while emphasising gratitude and forward-looking optimism. With his remarriage marking what he described as a new chapter, Dhawan made it clear that he wishes to move ahead with dignity and without engaging in negativity, urging social media users to refrain from spreading unverified and misleading claims.
Who’s Sophie Shine?
Dhawan married Sophie in a private wedding ceremony on Saturday, 21 February. The couple had been dating for over a year, and Dhawan went public about their relationship in May 2025. The pair were widely expected to marry after earlier announcing their engagement on Instagram on 12 January.
Dhawan and Sophie were first spotted together during a Champions Trophy 2025 match in Dubai. According to her LinkedIn profile, Sophie is an Irish product consultant currently working as Second Vice President – Product Consultant at Northern Trust Corporation, a US-based financial services firm. Reports suggest that she and Shikhar Dhawan met in the UAE, where Sophie is presently based.
Sophie holds a qualification in Marketing and Management from the Limerick Institute of Technology and completed her earlier education at Castleroy College in Ireland.
Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from international and Indian cricket in August 2024. He represented the country in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is and played a pivotal role in India’s Champions Trophy triumph in 2013, winning Player of the Tournament and golden bat awards for finishing as the highest run scorer of the tournament.
