Selena Gomez calls Taylor Swift “a profoundly clever lyricist” while lip-syncing to ‘Father Figure’ ahead of the grand Travis Kelce wedding

Selena Gomez spent her Thursday night lip-syncing to Taylor Swift’s latest and posting it for the world. The clip, shared via Gomez’s Instagram Story, shows her dancing to “Father Figure” off Swift’s album “The Life of a Showgirl,” wearing a black robe monogrammed with husband Benny Blanco’s initials.

Her caption was pointed: “does anyone else love a profoundly, clever and smart lyricist or is it that just me.” The post landed just days after Gomez confirmed on the “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast that Swift’s “Evermore” track “Dorothea” was written about her.

On the March 3 episode of “Friends Keep Secrets,” hosted by Blanco alongside rapper Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco, Gomez confirmed what Swifties have theorized for years.

“Well, ‘Dorothea’ is about me, one of her songs. I feel like a lot of huge moments that were self-defining, from relationships to family to love to hate, all of it in between, we were figuring it out because I was 15 and she was 18, and we didn’t really know what was going on. And so we’ve never seen each other any differently. So when I listen to it, I’m so impressed how it’s eloquently put,” Gomez said.

She also revealed Swift wrote an unreleased song called “Family” over a decade ago about their friendship, with lyrics that included: “you have these amazing dreams, you want to be in movies, like in every crowd, I still see you.”

“Father Figure” appears on Swift’s album “The Life of a Showgirl,” released in October 2025. Swift first announced the project on fiancé Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast. Kelce later proposed in a flower-themed garden he built in his backyard. The wedding is expected during the offseason.

Swift began dating Kelce in mid-2023. Before that, she had a brief romance with Matty Healy in 2023 and a relationship with Joe Alwyn that ran from 2016 to early 2023.

Gomez addressed Swift’s upcoming marriage on the same podcast episode. “It’s absolutely unbelievable to come from 17 years of friendship, from multiple heartbreaks and love stories and fun stories in life. We both ended up fortunately being engaged around the same time, and that was the coolest part,” she said.

On processing it all with Swift, Gomez added: “It’s more so that, ‘Wow, we survived it as best as we could because it’s literally all we talk about.’ When we talk about it, we’re not like, ‘Look at this prosperity.’ It’s more like, actually, ‘This is so cool that you get it.'”
