Pakistan Women’s batter reprimanded by ICC after outburst against South Africa

Pakistan Women’s batter Sidra Amin has been sanctioned by the ICC for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI against South Africa on Sunday, February 22, at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.

The right-handed batter was found to have violated Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”

The incident occurred in the 24th over of Pakistan’s innings after leg-spinner Sune Luus dismissed Sidra. Frustrated at her dismissal, Sidra slammed her bat into the ground before leaving the crease.

This is not Sidra’s first offence. The 33-year-old was previously handed a demerit point for a similar violation during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 match against India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, on October 5 in Colombo.

The charge against her during the South Africa game was brought by on-field umpires Kerrin Klaaste and Nimali Perera, third umpire Lauren Agenbag, and fourth umpire Stacy Lackay.

Sidra admitted to the misconduct and accepted the sanction recommended by Shandr Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, which meant a formal hearing was unnecessary.

HOW DID SIDRA AMIN PLAY IN 1ST ODI?

Sidra played a composed and determined innings for Pakistan Women, but her efforts went in vain as the Proteas secured a 37-run victory to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Coming in with Pakistan chasing 261, Sidra anchored the innings with a balanced mix of patience and aggression.

She reached her fifty off 50 balls and kept Pakistan in contention during the chase. Ultimately, she scored 68 runs off 69 balls, including nine fours, at a strike rate of 98.55 before being dismissed by Sune Luus.

Her timing and footwork against South Africa’s varied attack, including Luus and Nadine de Klerk, were impressive, allowing her to rotate the strike and build crucial partnerships.

Sidra’s innings was particularly vital after early wickets fell, including Sadaf Shamas and Muneeba Ali. Despite her resilience, Pakistan were bowled out for 223 in 38.5 overs, falling short of the target.
