IND vs ENG: Suryakumar Yadav unfazed by dew factor at Wankhede as England bowl first

India remain unfazed ahead of their T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal clash against England in Mumbai after Harry Brook won the toss and opted to bowl first on Thursday.

Much has been made of the Wankhede Stadium favouring the team that wins the toss, but India captain Suryakumar Yadav remains confident his side can get the job done batting first.

India went with an unchanged combination, sticking with the same XI that beat the West Indies at the Eden Gardens in their final Super Eight match. England, meanwhile, made one change, bringing in pace-bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton for spin all-rounder Rehan Ahmed.

In previous games at this venue during the tournament, spinners played a major role. However, according to Ian Bishop’s pitch report, tonight’s surface could be a more classical Wankhede pitch—a hard wicket where batters can play their shots freely.

For India, the challenge is clear: battle the pressure of batting first and post an above-par total. The defending champions will also be the first to assess how the pitch behaves, adding another layer of complexity to their task.

The dew factor looms large given Mumbai‘s humid conditions. The ball is likely to get wet fairly quickly in the second innings, making it difficult for bowlers to execute their deliveries with pinpoint precision. This could prove advantageous for England’s chase if India doesn’t put enough runs on the board.

India’s batting lineup will need to capitalise on the hard surface early, building a total substantial enough to defend even under dew-affected conditions. With the pitch expected to favour stroke play, the onus is on India’s top and middle order to set the tone.

The defending champions know what’s at stake—a place in the final awaits the winner. England’s decision to bowl first suggests they’re banking on chasing under lights, but India will look to make that task as difficult as possible.
