This week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational field is quite star-studded. The two most famous stars in the golfing world, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, will tee off on Thursday. But withdrawals are still a problem for the PGA Tour. Before the first round tee time last week, three well-known players exited the 2026 Cognizant Classic. All three had different reasons to withdraw, with only one of them stating an injury. This week, the problem has also expanded to Bay Hill.
However, one star has chosen not to take part in the tournament. Jake Knapp, a California native golfer with more than $8 million in career earnings, has withdrawn from Bay Hill.
PGA Tour Communications confirms Jake Knapp’s exit via social media post
According to PGA Tour Communications, “Jake Knapp WD before the first round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard. “Haotong Li will replace Knapp in the 12:05 p.m. tee time.”
Haotong Li, a Chinese golfer, will replace Knapp in the last round of the Open Championship. He teed off alongside Scheffler, finishing with a score of 11-under par. For someone who had participated in just three PGA Tour events, it was an impressive performance.
In the 2026 season, Jake Knapp had been in exceptional form. He started the week at eighth in the FedEx Cup standings, having four consecutive top-10s, including a solo sixth-place finish in his last start at the Genesis Invitational. A T-11 at the tour’s season opener, the Sony Open in Hawaii, was his worst result thus far this year. He would have hoped to keep his outstanding performance at Bay Hill Club as well.
However, Knapp failed to participate in the $20 million Signature event. The reason might not have been stated. But for the fact that he was in outstanding form, he might have been forced to leave the tournament.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational is the third signature event on the PGA Tour’s 2026 schedule, which means it’s a smaller field with higher prize money. The top 50 and ties, as well as anyone within 10 strokes of the lead after Friday, will make the cut and will receive a payout.
Jake Knapp’s steady play made him a fan favorite this week, and some fans will certainly be disappointed due to his abrupt withdrawal. He is scheduled to play at The Players Championship this month.
