‘Drishyam 3’ shatters overseas records: Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph’s thriller drives huge demand

‘Drishyam 3’, the highly awaited third installment of the iconic Malayalam franchise is already setting major global records long before its release. The film which is led by Mohanlal and directed by Jeethu Joseph is confirmed for an April 2, 2026 theatrical debut.

Even before post-production is complete the project has become Malayalam cinema’s biggest pre-release business ever. New trade updates from Filmibeat state that the film has cracked an unprecedented deal for its North America theatrical rights. These rights have reportedly sold for a massive Rs 10 crore and this indicates ar huge overseas demand and a strong opening weekend.

North America rights hit Rs 10 crore

Reportedly the distribution split within North America shows the film’s value. The USA theatrical rights alone have reportedly been sold for Rs 6 crore. Meanwhile the Canada rights have fetched another Rs 4 crore.

Leaked plot description

A leaked plot description, emerging from overseas distributor sources, has intensified discussions on social media. The description reads, “Georgekutty (Mohanlal) is not just protecting his family from the world, but he is also protecting them from the truth, and from the burden of what binds them together. Now, as new forces begin to close in, more organized and determined than ever before, the cracks in his carefully built calm start to widen. ”

It continues, “The threat is no longer just external; it presses against his conscience, his relationships, and the fragile normalcy he has tried so hard to create. And as the walls slowly tighten around him and his family, how much more is Georgekutty willing to sacrifice.”

On the other hand, Jeethu Joseph’s recent film ‘Valathu Vashathe Kallan’ has performed poorly at the box office with mixed reviews from the audiences. Jeethu Joseph’s previous outing ‘Mirage’ also turned out to be a massive disappointment. ‘Drishyam 3’ is expected to mark the comeback of the director.
