The North Goa District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ordered Rajasthan-based furniture company Lakkadhaara Furniture Company to refund Rs 88,200 to a Bambolim resident over failure to deliver a bed set.
The commission also ordered the firm to pay the consumer Rs 30,000 for mental agony.
According to the complaint, Teena Sareen placed an order with the company for a bed set via its official website on Nov 7, 2024, and paid Rs 88,200. The bed set was scheduled to be delivered within 5-6 weeks from the date of the order.
The furniture company did not make the delivery on the date said. After Sareen’s repeated calls, the firm’s representatives said that the order was dispatched.
When Sareen verified the tracking number, the bed set was not picked up and only the shipping number was generated, indicating that the company’s dispatch claim was misleading.
Sareen sought cancellation of the order and the Jcompany acknowledged Jit, but the amount was not refunded.
Despite Sareen’s follow-ups, the furniture company did not initiate a refund. The company, in turn, gave excuses for the delay in refunds.
The commission said that the actions of the furniture company constituted a deficiency in service and an unfair trade practice.
