Jeweller Embeds $2M Diamond in Prosthetic Eye Like Bond Villain

Jeweller Creates World’s Most Expensive Prosthetic Eye With $2M Diamond

A 23-year-old jewellery store owner has transformed his prosthetic eye into a stunning piece of jewellery by embedding a two-carat diamond, creating what’s likely the world’s most expensive artificial eye.

Key Takeaways

  • Slater Jones, 23, lost his right eye to toxoplasmosis at age 17
  • He collaborated with prosthetic expert John Imm to create the unique eye
  • The diamond-embedded prosthetic cost approximately $2 million (£1.45 million)
  • Social media users compare his appearance to James Bond villains

From Medical Necessity to Luxury Accessory

Slater Jones began losing vision in his right eye at 17 due to a toxoplasmosis infection. After multiple failed surgeries, doctors determined the eye needed removal. Rather than settling for a standard prosthetic, the jewellery designer created something that reflected his profession.

The result features a natural diamond iris that catches the light brilliantly. “I lost my eye, but it brought new light into my life,” Jones said about his unique accessory.

Expert Collaboration

Prosthetic specialist John Imm, who crafted the eye, wrote on Instagram: “I have made around 10,000 artificial eyes in the last 32 years. This artificial eye is the most valuable in terms of materials.”

Imm explained the technical constraints, noting: “That is a 2 carat diamond. Why not a three carat you ask? Well it wouldn’t fit.”

Social Media Sensation

Jones’ “Diamond Eye” has gone viral, with many comparing him to James Bond villains. One commenter noted: “dude is kind of destined to be a Bond villain now,” while another wrote: “Hardest prosthetic I’ve ever seen.”

Jones now uses his striking appearance as a marketing tool, posting captions like: “If your jeweller don’t have a diamond eye I don’t want to see him.”

Safety Concerns

Some social media users expressed concerns about the safety of wearing such valuable jewellery in an eye socket. Comments included: “All fun and games until somebody jacks you for your bejewelled eyeball” and “Shouldn’t you be careful every time you go outside?”

Despite these concerns, Jones has embraced his new identity as “Diamond Eye,” turning a medical setback into a unique business advantage.
