Bollywood actress and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt has opened her heart on Instagram while recalling moments from her 2002 musical drama ‘Sur: The Melody of Life’.
The film, which starred singer Lucky Ali and actress Gauri Karnik, was co-produced by Pooja. More than two decades later, she found some behind-the-scenes photographs from the sets and decided to share them online. Along with the pictures, she wrote a heartfelt caption that showed how much the experience still means to her.
“When the ‘remember this?’ feels joyous then you know it was a journey where harmony outplayed the noise. Found these gems from the making of ‘Sur’. What a magical time indeed,” Pooja wrote while tagging director Tanuja Chandra, producer Marijke Desouza, and Lucky Ali.
The movie itself had a very emotional storyline. Loosely inspired by the Telugu film ‘Swati Kiranam’ (1992) and the Hollywood classic ‘Amadeus’ (1984), ‘Sur’ followed the story of Vikramaditya, a music teacher played by Lucky Ali. His life changes when he discovers Tina. She is a young girl with an extraordinary voice. He trains her and gives her the wings to fly. But Tina rises to fame. His own insecurities come to the surface. This leads to a conflict between the mentor and his student.

For Pooja, ‘Sur’ was one of the projects that reflected her eye for meaningful cinema. By the early 2000s, she was already known as the daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and the half-sister of Alia Bhatt. But she had carved her own space long before.
Her acting journey began in 1989 with the TV film ‘Daddy’. Soon after, she won hearts with ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin’. The latter went on to become her biggest box office hit. Throughout the 1990s, she built a reputation for choosing strong, and sometimes unconventional roles. Films like ‘Sadak’, ‘Junoon’, ‘Naraaz’, ‘Angrakshak’, ‘Chaahat’, ‘Tamanna’, ‘Border’, ‘Angaaray’ and ‘Zakhm’ gave her recognition not just as a star but as a performer. After that, she took a long break from acting.
In recent years, Pooja has made a comeback in front of the camera. In 2024, she appeared in ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’, an English-language coming-of-age web series created by Nitya Mehra. The show also featured Raima Sen, Zoya Hussain, Avantika, Tenzin Lhakyila, Mukul Chadda and several new talents.
She also surprised audiences by joining the second OTT edition of the reality show ‘Bigg Boss’. The season ended on 14 August 2023 with Elvish Yadav creating history as the first wildcard contestant to win, while Abhishek Malhan became runner-up.
