Reality TV star Kathryn Dennis, widely known for her long stint on Bravo’s ‘Southern Charm’, has once again found herself in the middle of serious legal trouble. The 33-year-old has been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol and sentenced to 30 days in police custody.
The incident stems from an encounter that took place earlier this year. According to authorities in South Carolina, Dennis was stopped by the Goose Creek Police Department in May 2024.
Officers claimed she appeared “possibly impaired,” noting that her eyes were glossy and there was a strong smell of alcohol. Police reports also stated she had an open container of alcohol inside her vehicle. This led to an additional charge.
A video released by TMZ shows the reality star visibly upset during the field sobriety test. In the clip, Dennis can be heard arguing with officers, at one point saying, “You are ruining my life and my kids’ lives. Thanks for nothing.” She was taken into custody at the time, and now the case has officially resulted in jail time.
According to inmate records from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Dennis was booked on Friday evening. She is going to serve 30 days behind bars at the Berkeley County jail. So far, her team has not issued a statement about the conviction.
Kathryn Dennis is not a new name to controversy. During her run on ‘Southern Charm’ between 2014 and 2023, she had openly discussed her struggles with substance abuse. Then she even sought treatment in a rehab facility in California in the past.
In fact, the DUI conviction is not her first brush with the law. Back in 2023, she was accused of being involved in a hit-and-run incident. On the show’s sixth season, Dennis herself admitted to being drunk on the night in question.
Dennis is also a mother of two. She shares her daughter Kensington and son Saint Julien with her ex, former politician Thomas Ravenel. Her relationship with Ravenel was heavily documented on ‘Southern Charm’. The custody battles and public disputes often spilled into the storyline.
