After the massive success of Amar Singh Chamkila, Imtiaz Ali and Diljit Dosanjh are all set to reunite for a new movie. In a landmark collaboration, Applause Entertainment, Window Seat Films and Reliance Entertainment join hands to present a charming story of love and longing directed by the master storyteller, Imtiaz Ali.
Bringing Ali’s vision to life is a stellar cast featuring Diljit Dosanjh, Vedang Raina, Sharvari and Naseeruddin Shah. The film reunites the celebrated trio of A.R. Rahman, Irshad Kamil, and Imtiaz, whose creative partnership has given Indian cinema some of its most enduring melodies.
With a contemporary and witty narrative that explores the depth of human connection, this yet untitled film promises to be an exciting cinematic experience. The Mumbai shoot schedule of the film got over last month. The team is now in Punjab for the next schedule.
Produced by Applause Entertainment, Mohit Choudhary and Reliance Entertainment, this Window Seat Films production will release in cinemas on Baisakhi 2026.
Talking about the movie, Imtiaz Ali shared, “Can love really be lost? Can home be taken away from someone’s heart? This is a film that I feel fortunate to be working on. It’s about what is left with us when everything else is lost. The love that refuses to be left behind guides us through the highs and lows of life and remains the everlasting song on our lips and smile in our hearts. The film has a large canvas, yet is very personal. It is a story of a boy and a girl, but also a country. In Applause Entertainment, we have found the ideal partners in thought and action to bring out the best in the film.”
Sameer Nair, Managing Director, Applause Entertainment also added, “Working with Imtiaz on an epic love story that spans time and space is the perfect match for Applause’s big screen ambition. A phenomenal cast set to AR Rahman and Irshad Kamil’s musical brilliance, with the painterly strokes of a master filmmaker, this is truly a romance for the ages.”
Diljit Dosanjh previously worked with Imtiaz Ali on Amar Singh Chamkila. Released on Netflix on April 12, 2024, the film follows Chamkila’s journey from a Dalit Sikh family in Punjab, dissatisfied with factory life, to becoming a superstar with provocative lyrics that often centred on love and rebellion. The story captures both his meteoric rise and tragic assassination at the age of 27. The film received an overwhelming response from the audience. Diljit has now been nominated for Best Performance by an Actor at the prestigious International Emmy Awards 2025.
