The Heroic Story of Arun Khetarpal
Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, born in Pune, came from a distinguished military family spanning generations. His great-grandfather served in the Sikh Khalsa Army, his grandfather fought in World War I, and his father was an officer in the Indian Army’s Corps of Engineers.
After excelling academically and joining the National Defence Academy, Khetarpal was commissioned into the 17 Poona Horse battalion.
The 1971 War Heroism
During the December 1971 Indo-Pakistan war, Khetarpal’s battalion was tasked with establishing a bridgehead over the Basantar River. Facing heavy resistance and minefields, the young officer took command and led his tank directly into enemy attack.
His unit destroyed ten Pakistani tanks before Khetarpal was fatally wounded at just 21 years old. He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, becoming the youngest recipient of India’s highest military honor.
The film ‘Ikkis’ aims to bring this inspiring story of courage and sacrifice to audiences worldwide, with Agastya Nanda portraying the legendary war hero in what promises to be a powerful cinematic tribute.
