‘Hamnet’ OTT release date: When and where to watch the Oscar-nominated drama starring Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley online

Chloé Zhao’s historical drama ‘Hamnet’ is preparing for its streaming debut after a strong run in theaters and a wave of awards recognition. The film premiered in U. S. cinemas on November 26, 2025, and quickly earned praise from critics and audiences. With the 2026 Academy Awards approaching, viewers who missed the film on the big screen will soon be able to watch it from home.

‘Hamnet’ OTT release date and streaming platform

According to Box Office Mojo and industry reports, ‘Hamnet’ will begin streaming in the United States on March 6, 2026, on the Peacock platform. The release arrives just days before the 2026 Academy Awards ceremony, scheduled for March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The film has already built strong momentum leading up to the Oscars. ‘Hamnet’ has received nominations in eight categories at the 2026 Academy Awards. It is considered a major contender in key races, including Best Actress for Jessie Buckley, Best Director for Chloé Zhao, and Best Picture.

The drama has also delivered solid commercial results. The film earned about USD 92.4 million worldwide during its theatrical run, placing it just outside the top 50 highest-grossing films of 2025 according to Box Office Mojo’s annual rankings.

In addition to the upcoming streaming debut, viewers can currently rent the film on several digital platforms. These include Prime Video, Apple TV Plus, and Fandango at Home, where the movie is available through pay-per-view options.

‘Hamnet’ story and cast details

Set in late 16th-century England, ‘Hamnet’ explores a deeply personal chapter in the life of legendary playwright William Shakespeare. The story centers on Shakespeare, played by Paul Mescal, and his wife Agnes, portrayed by Jessie Buckley. Their family life takes a devastating turn when their 11-year-old son Hamnet suddenly falls ill. The boy’s death leaves the family struggling to cope with grief and loss.

The film reimagines how this tragedy could have influenced Shakespeare’s life and creative work. Through its emotional narrative, the story examines love, family bonds, and the lasting impact of personal tragedy. Critics and audiences have responded strongly to the film. ‘Hamnet’ currently holds an 86 percent critics’ score and a 93 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, reflecting its wide acclaim.

With awards attention growing and its streaming release approaching, the film is expected to reach a wider audience just as the Oscars spotlight turns toward the year’s most celebrated movies.
