Battlefield 6 Smashes Franchise Records with 7 Million Sales in 3 Days
Electronic Arts has announced that “Battlefield 6” has set an all-time franchise sales record, selling over 7 million copies in its first three days. This strong launch represents EA’s major push to revitalize the Battlefield series and compete directly with Microsoft-owned Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty franchise.
Key Launch Metrics
The game, which launched on October 10, generated massive engagement with over 172 million online matches during its opening weekend. Streaming platforms recorded over 15 million hours of Battlefield 6 gameplay watched, while the title achieved the highest concurrent player count in franchise history.
Strategic Importance for EA
This record-breaking launch comes weeks after EA agreed to a $55 billion sale to a Saudi-backed investor group, a deal largely driven by the company’s valuable gaming portfolio. With EA’s other shooter titles like Apex Legends, Titanfall, and Star Wars Battlefront declining in popularity, the company is heavily relying on Battlefield 6 to attract players amid economic uncertainty and intense competition.
The first seasonal content, Season 1, is scheduled for release on October 28, with two additional phases planned for later this year as part of EA’s regular content rollout strategy.
Call of Duty’s Competitive Position
Meanwhile, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was the biggest release in the series’ history, setting multiple franchise records. The game achieved record day-one player counts and drove significant new subscriptions to Game Pass.
Sales on PlayStation and Steam platforms showed a 60% year-over-year increase compared to last year’s Modern Warfare III. While Microsoft hasn’t disclosed exact sales figures for Black Ops 6, the Call of Duty franchise has historically delivered massive returns – Modern Warfare II generated $800 million in its first three days and crossed $1 billion within 10 days.
Activision Blizzard confirmed that the entire Call of Duty franchise has now sold over 500 million copies worldwide, cementing its status as one of the most successful video game IPs in history.
