TCS Summoned by Pune Labour Commissioner Over Illegal Layoffs

TCS Faces Labour Commissioner Summons Over Alleged Illegal Layoffs

The Pune Labour Commissioner has summoned Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) following multiple complaints filed by the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), which alleges the IT giant carried out “illegal terminations” and “unlawful layoffs” affecting approximately 12,000 employees, or about 2% of its workforce. A hearing is scheduled for November 18, 2025.

Key Allegations by NITES

The employee union NITES has formally accused TCS of widespread unfair labor practices, prompting regulatory intervention.

  • Scale of Layoffs: Reports indicate 12,000 employees were affected.
  • Nature of Complaints: Abrupt terminations, forced resignations, and denial of statutory dues.
  • Legal Action: NITES assisted employees in filing formal complaints with the Labour Commissioner’s Office in Pune.

NITES Statement on Social Media

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), NITES detailed the grievances:

“Over the past several months, NITES has received a large number of complaints from TCS employees across various locations regarding abrupt terminations, forced resignations, denial of statutory dues, and coercive employment practices. After reviewing the grievances and supporting documents, NITES assisted the affected employees in filing formal complaints before the competent authority.”

Legal Proceedings and Employee Support

Initial proceedings have reinforced that employers must follow due process. NITES has urged affected TCS employees—those who faced wrongful termination, forced resignation, unfair treatment, or non-payment of dues—to come forward for legal support and protection. The union cited specific statutory provisions in its complaint, listing several affected employees.
