TCS Summoned by Pune Labour Commissioner Over Layoff Complaints

TCS Faces Legal Action Over Layoffs: Pune Labour Commissioner Issues Summons

India’s largest IT firm, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has been formally summoned by the Pune Labour Commissioner’s office following complaints about alleged unlawful termination practices during ongoing workforce reductions.

Key Developments

  • TCS received official summons from Pune Labour Commissioner
  • Complaints filed by employee union NITES over “illegal termination”
  • Company planning to lay off approximately 2% of its workforce
  • Multiple cases being investigated by labor authorities

The labor department action comes after the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), an IT employee protection organization, filed multiple formal complaints regarding TCS’s termination procedures. The union has been actively raising concerns about the manner in which the layoffs are being conducted.

“The Labour Commissioner Office, Pune has issued summons to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in multiple matters filed by NITES concerning illegal termination of employment and unlawful layoffs,” NITES said in a post on X.

The summons represents a significant escalation in the ongoing dispute between the IT major and employee representatives. TCS had previously announced plans to reduce its workforce by approximately 2%, affecting thousands of employees across various locations.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
