Reliance JV Plans Rs 98,000 Crore AI Data Centres in Andhra Pradesh

Key Takeaways

  • Reliance JV Digital Connexion to invest Rs 98,000 crore ($11 billion) in Andhra Pradesh
  • 1 GW AI-native data centre capacity planned in Visakhapatnam by 2030
  • Project spans 400 acres, positioning India as global AI infrastructure hub

Digital Connexion, a joint venture between Reliance Industries, Brookfield, and US-based Digital Realty, has announced a massive $11 billion (Rs 98,000 crore) investment to build 1 gigawatt of AI-optimized data centres in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The facilities, scheduled for completion by 2030, will be developed across 400 acres and designed specifically for next-generation artificial intelligence workloads.

Major Infrastructure Push

This investment represents one of India’s largest data infrastructure commitments, coming shortly after Google’s $15 billion announcement for AI hubs and data centres in the same region. The timing underscores Visakhapatnam’s emergence as a critical digital infrastructure corridor.

Digital Connexion has formalized the investment through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board. The project is expected to significantly enhance the state’s position as an emerging AI and cloud computing hub.

AI-Optimized Design

The new data centre parks will feature specialized infrastructure for artificial intelligence applications, including:

  • Future-ready systems and high-density racks
  • Robust substations and redundant power feeds
  • Seamless performance capabilities for hyperscalers and enterprises

This design approach addresses the heavy computational and storage demands anticipated as AI adoption accelerates across industries over the next decade.

Expanding National Presence

Digital Connexion already operates a major campus in Chennai and is developing another facility in Mumbai’s Chandivali area. Both existing locations provide low-latency, carrier-neutral connectivity.

The Visakhapatnam expansion will strengthen the company’s footprint across India’s primary digital corridors. According to the company, the Andhra Pradesh facilities will help establish India as a significant global hub for AI infrastructure and advanced data processing within the Asia-Pacific region.
