PM Modi to Address National Startup Day Event, Launch Key Schemes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver a keynote address at the National Startup Day event on Friday, January 12, 2024, via video conference. The PM will launch two major initiatives to boost the sector.

  • Start-up India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS) 2.0: A financial assistance scheme for start-ups covering proof of concept, prototype development, trials, and market entry.
  • Start-up India Innovation Week 2024: A nationwide event from January 10-18 to bring together entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers.

Event Details and Significance

The virtual event begins at 10:30 AM. It will feature workshops, seminars, mentoring sessions, and networking opportunities for all stakeholders in the startup ecosystem.

National Startup Day is observed annually on January 16 to recognize the sector’s contribution to the economy and promote entrepreneurship. Prime Minister Modi officially declared this day in 2022.

India’s Startup Landscape

India boasts the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem. Government data reveals over 1.17 lakh recognized startups spread across 763 districts as of December 2023.

Impact: These startups have generated more than 12 lakh jobs since 2017, highlighting their role as a major employment driver.
