IndiGo Completes A320 Safety Checks, No Flight Cancellations

IndiGo Nears Completion of A320 Safety Checks, Confirms No Flight Cancellations

IndiGo has confirmed that mandatory safety inspections on its Airbus A320-family aircraft are nearly complete, with no flights cancelled and only minimal delays expected for passengers.

Key Takeaways

  • IndiGo has completed safety checks on 160 of 200 identified A320 aircraft
  • No flights cancelled due to the mandatory inspections
  • Minimal delays expected for some flights
  • Air India also reports similar progress with no cancellations

Rapid Progress on Safety Inspections

IndiGo has made significant progress on the mandatory inspections and software updates required for its Airbus A320-family fleet following directives from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Airbus.

A spokesperson confirmed that 200 aircraft in IndiGo’s fleet were identified for the checks. “The required actions have already been completed on 160 aircraft by 12:00 IST and inspections on the remaining aircraft are progressing well and will be completed within the timeline,” the spokesperson said.

Minimal Operational Impact

The airline emphasized that operations remain largely unaffected by the safety checks. “We would also like to confirm that no flights have been cancelled as a result of these checks. However, a few flights may experience minimal delays,” the spokesperson added.

IndiGo is working closely with EASA and Airbus to ensure full compliance with the global safety directive affecting A320-family jets worldwide. The airline has deployed additional operational support to manage any minor disruptions and keep passengers informed.

Air India’s Similar Response

Air India has also addressed the safety directive, confirming it hasn’t cancelled any flights due to the Airbus requirements. The airline reported completing the reset on over 40% of its affected A320-family aircraft and expects to finish the remainder within the EASA-prescribed timeline.

While acknowledging that some flights may be “slightly delayed or rescheduled,” Air India stated the overall impact on its network was minimal, with airport teams assisting passengers as needed.

Global Safety Context

IndiGo and Air India are among the largest operators of A320-family aircraft globally, making India one of the most affected markets under the EASA-Airbus technical advisory.

The safety checks were triggered by an incident involving a JetBlue A320, after which Airbus recommended precautionary updates to correct a potential flight-control vulnerability affecting airlines worldwide.
