IT major Infosys has secured a landmark 15-year contract worth £1.2 billion from the UK’s NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA). The deal is for delivering the Future NHS Workforce Solution across England and Wales.
The new, data-driven platform will replace the existing Electronic Staff Record (ESR) system. It will handle the payroll for 1.9 million NHS staff, distributing over £55 billion annually.
A Strategic Enabler for the NHS
“Delivering the Future NHS Workforce Solution is a critical step in supporting the ambitions of the 10-Year Health Plan. The solution will go far beyond simply replacing ESR — it will be a strategic enabler for building a workforce that is fit for the future,” said Michael Brodie, Chief Executive, NHSBSA.
He added that partnering with Infosys will help create a modern solution to better attract, retain, and support NHS personnel.
Infosys’s Role and Technology
Infosys was selected after a rigorous process, recognized for its expertise in large-scale digital transformation. The new system will be a flexible, integrated platform supporting the entire employee lifecycle—from recruitment to retirement.
It will leverage advanced technologies, including elements from Infosys’s AI platform, Topaz, to drive future efficiency.
