India Post to Launch Guaranteed 24-Hour and 48-Hour Mail Delivery
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Friday that India Post will introduce guaranteed delivery services for mails and parcels with timelines of 24 hours and 48 hours, starting January.
Key Takeaways
- 24-hour Speed Post service for guaranteed mail delivery within 24 hours
- 48-hour Speed Post service for delivery within 48 hours
- Next-day parcel delivery service (currently takes 3-5 days)
- All services to launch in January
- Goal to transform India Post into profit center by 2029
The new services mark a significant upgrade from the current delivery timelines and represent part of the government’s broader strategy to modernize postal services.
“We are going to launch new products with guaranteed delivery of mails and parcels. There will be 24-hour Speed Post service which will ensure delivery of mails within 24 hours. Similarly, there will be a 48-hour Speed Post for delivery within 48 hours,” Scindia said.
Transformation Strategy
Scindia emphasized that the government aims to transform India Post from a ‘cost centre’ to a ‘profit centre’ by 2029. The new guaranteed delivery services are expected to enhance customer satisfaction and boost revenue for the postal department.
The next-day parcel delivery service will particularly benefit e-commerce and business customers who currently face 3-5 day delivery times.
