Royal Enfield’s electric future starts soon with Flying Flea C6: All you need to know

More than eight decades after it first buzzed across wartime battlefields, the Flying Flea name is preparing for a comeback, this time powered by electricity. Originally developed during the Second World War, the lightweight Royal Enfield Flying Flea earned its nickname for its agility and portability. Built to be air-dropped alongside paratroopers, the tiny motorcycle became a symbol of rugged simplicity and battlefield mobility.

Now, that historic nameplate is being revived for the electric era through the Royal Enfield Flying Flea C6, the first electric bike from Royal Enfield.

Near-production versions of the Flying Flea C6 have been spotted testing in Chennai without camouflage, suggesting that development is entering its final stages. The sightings point towards a possible market launch around mid-2026.

The motorcycle was first showcased at EICMA 2024, marking Royal Enfield’s formal entry into the electric two-wheeler space. Earlier prototypes had been heavily camouflaged and were even tested in extreme cold conditions in Ladakh. The latest undisguised test mules indicate that the production model is almost ready for launch, potentially arriving sooner than the brand’s previously indicated early-2026 timeline.

Design closely follows the original concept

The test motorcycles confirm that the production version closely mirrors the concept revealed in Milan. The retro-modern aesthetic remains intact, blending heritage styling cues with modern EV architecture.

Notable design highlights include a circular LED headlamp, girder-style front suspension and a clean, minimalist body profile. The motorcycle also features an exposed aluminium frame and a belt-drive system mounted on the right side, aimed at delivering a quiet and smooth riding experience.

Another distinctive element carried over from the show bike is the magnesium finned battery casing. Apart from contributing to the design identity, the fins help dissipate heat more effectively.

Recent test bikes were also seen equipped with a centre stand, pointing towards everyday usability considerations.

A new EV platform for Royal Enfield

The Flying Flea C6 is built on a new electric platform developed specifically for Royal Enfield’s upcoming EV range. This architecture will also underpin the Flying Flea S6, a scrambler-styled sibling expected to arrive later in 2026.

The new platform signals the brand’s long-term commitment to electric mobility and will likely serve as the foundation for multiple future models under the Flying Flea sub-brand.

Expected performance and features

While official technical specifications remain under wraps, the C6 is expected to deliver performance comparable to a mid-capacity petrol motorcycle. The electric cruiser is likely to feature a mid-mounted motor paired with a belt drive, along with disc brakes at both ends and dual-channel ABS.

The C6 will likely feature a battery pack in the 4–5kWh range, which could deliver over 100km of real-world range, although final figures will be revealed closer to launch.

The Flying Flea sub-brand is expected to be positioned as a premium offering within Royal Enfield’s portfolio, likely priced between the company’s 450cc and 650cc motorcycles.

With production-ready motorcycles now appearing on public roads, an official announcement from Royal Enfield could arrive soon. If the original Flying Flea represented lightweight mobility for soldiers in the 1940s, the new C6 aims to reinterpret that spirit for the modern city, combining heritage design with contemporary electric technology.
