Radical Consciousness Theory Explains What Happens When You Die

Key Takeaways

  • Consciousness may be a fundamental field, not produced by the brain
  • Death represents consciousness returning to this universal field
  • Near-death experiences and telepathy could have scientific explanations
  • The theory suggests all consciousness is interconnected

A radical new theory proposed by physicist Professor Maria Strømme suggests consciousness doesn’t end when we die but instead returns to a fundamental universal field. This groundbreaking concept could finally provide scientific explanations for near-death experiences, telepathy, and what happens after death.

According to the Uppsala University nanotechnology professor, consciousness doesn’t emerge from human brains but exists as a fundamental field of reality itself. If correct, this would transform our understanding of life, death, and consciousness.

The Consciousness Field Theory

Professor Strømme’s theory challenges conventional neuroscience by proposing that consciousness is fundamental to reality, much like space and time. ‘The possibility that consciousness is fundamental has been under-explored. But that is changing rapidly,’ she told the Daily Mail.

She explains that individual consciousness operates like waves on an ocean – temporary formations within a universal consciousness field. ‘A wave has a form that is temporary, but the water that carries it does not vanish when the wave subsides.’

This means when a person dies, their consciousness doesn’t disappear but simply returns to the background field. ‘The fundamental substrate of awareness does not begin or end with the body, just as the ocean does not begin or end with the appearance of a single wave,’ says Professor Strømme.

Explaining Quantum Mysteries

The theory also addresses longstanding quantum physics puzzles like Schrödinger’s cat. If consciousness is fundamental to reality, it naturally explains how observation affects quantum states.

Traditional quantum theory suggests particles exist in multiple states until observed. Professor Strømme’s model provides a natural explanation for why consciousness interacts with reality in this fundamental way.

Scientific Validation of Unexplained Phenomena

Perhaps most remarkably, the theory suggests that phenomena often dismissed as pseudoscience deserve rigorous scientific testing. Near-death experiences, where people report visions of religious figures, loved ones, or future events, could result from ‘atypical access to that underlying field’ when the brain is impaired.

Telepathy and psychic abilities might also be scientifically valid. Since all consciousness is interconnected through the fundamental field, information could theoretically transmit between individuals across space and time.

‘This would explain why telepathy-like phenomena appear across cultures and throughout history, even though the empirical evidence so far is controversial and not yet conclusive,’ Professor Strømme notes.

Testing the Theory

The theory makes testable predictions. Brain scans of people in deep meditation or emotional attunement should show evidence of synchronizing with others’ brain activity. Such evidence would provide crucial validation.

Professor Strømme points to remarkable parallels between religious texts and quantum physics. ‘The texts of the major religions often describe an interconnected consciousness. Early quantum physicists arrived at similar ideas using scientific methods.’

She concludes: ‘Now, it is time for hardcore science to seriously begin exploring this.’

What People Actually Experience in Near-Death Events

A study of 48 near-death experiences reveals common themes that align with the consciousness field theory:

  • Religious figures: Visions of Jesus, God, or angels
  • Loved ones: Reunions with deceased family members
  • Beautiful environments: Gardens, landscapes, and extraordinary light
  • Interconnectedness: Matrix-like structures and universal consciousness
  • Tunnels: Passageways and escalators through darkness
  • Future visions: Premonitions and awareness of events

These experiences, previously considered hallucinations or religious phenomena, might represent genuine contact with the fundamental consciousness field that Professor Strømme’s theory describes.
