LA 2028 Olympics Schedule: Complete Competition Calendar Revealed

The official competition schedule for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics has been released, revealing the complete timeline of events from the opening ceremony on July 14 to the closing ceremony on July 30, 2028.

“With Olympic ticket registration opening in January of 2026, now is the time to start planning what events you want to attend, which sports are coming to your neighbourhood and the moments of history you don’t want to miss,” said LA28 Chief Executive Officer Reynold Hoover as quoted by Olympics.com.

“Athletes and fans from around the world now have what they need to plan an unforgettable Olympic experience,” he added.

Opening and Closing Ceremonies

The Olympic Opening Ceremony will take place on July 14, 2028 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT, with the Closing Ceremony scheduled for July 30, 2028 at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

First and Final Medal Events

For the first time since Sydney 2000, the Women’s Triathlon at Venice Beach will open the medal events on Day 1. The Games will conclude with Swimming finals on Day 16, just before the closing ceremony.

Athletics fans will enjoy an exciting start with Women’s and Men’s 100m finals on Days 1 and 2, while traditional marathon events will unfold on the final weekend.

Historic Gender Equality

LA28 will make history as the first Olympics with more female than male athletes. Every team sport will feature equal or greater women’s participation, with 50.5% of total athlete quota allocated to women.

Day 1 alone will showcase the most women’s finals ever in a single Olympic day, including triathlon, athletics, judo, fencing, canoe slalom, rugby sevens and shooting.

Super Saturday: The Biggest Medal Day

Day 15 promises to be the most action-packed day of the Games, featuring 26 finals sessions across 23 sports. Dubbed “Super Saturday,” this epic day includes:

  • 15 gold and bronze team sport medal matches
  • Finals in 15 individual sports including athletics, swimming and gymnastics
  • Returning sports like cricket, baseball and softball deciding their champions

New Sports and Returning Favorites

The 2028 Games will see several historic debuts and returns:

  • Flag Football & Squash: Olympic debut sports beginning Day 1
  • Cricket: Returns after over 100 years absence
  • Baseball/Softball: Return after Tokyo 2020 appearance
  • Lacrosse: Back after last appearing in 1908
  • Six mixed-gender events: New team competitions in archery, athletics, gymnastics and more

Ticketing Information

Ticket registration opens in January 2026 through LA28.org. Official providers include AXS and EVENTIM for ticketing, with On Location handling hospitality packages. Visa remains the official payment partner.

Football tournament details and Paralympic schedules will be announced later. All schedules remain subject to change until the Games conclude.

Los Angeles becomes only the third city to host three Olympic Games, following its previous editions in 1932 and 1984.
