Skoda Hits Record Sales in India with Kylaq SUV Driving Growth

Skoda Achieves Record Sales Milestone in India

Skoda Auto India has reported its highest-ever monthly sales in October, driven by the massive success of its Kylaq compact SUV. This achievement, combined with the instant sell-out of the limited-edition Octavia RS, marks a significant resurgence for the brand during its 25th-anniversary celebrations in the country.

Key Takeaways

  • Skoda recorded 8,252 units sold in October, its highest monthly sales ever.
  • The Kylaq SUV has sold nearly 40,000 units since its January launch.
  • The Octavia RS limited edition sold out 100 units in minutes, with 350+ bookings.
  • Company plans more Octavia RS imports and is evaluating CNG options.

Record-Breaking Performance

Ashish Gupta, Brand Director of Skoda Auto India, confirmed that the Kylaq SUV was the primary driver behind the record October sales of 8,252 cars. “The visible presence of the SUV on the roads has further fuelled customer interest, creating a virtuous cycle of sales growth,” he stated. The Kylaq has sold approximately 40,000 units since its market introduction in January.

Octavia RS Instant Success

The limited-edition Octavia RS proved exceptionally popular, with the initial allocation of 100 units selling out within minutes. The company has received over 350 bookings, far exceeding expectations. Gupta explained, “The Octavia is the brand that defined Skoda in India, and the RS is the pinnacle of Skoda engineering. With this car, we are fittingly celebrating 25 years of Skoda in India.”

Due to overwhelming demand, Skoda is working to import additional units. “We’re planning to get more cars to India as early as next year – it will depend on what kind of quota we get from global production,” Gupta confirmed.

Market Dynamics Shift

The recent festive season and GST rate reductions contributed to record industry-wide sales. Gupta noted that while seasonal peaks typically subside, current market conditions appear fundamentally different. “I’m 50 years old, and this is the first time I have heard car prices going down. People will keep coming to showrooms,” he observed, indicating a positive shift in consumer sentiment.

Future Product Strategy

Skoda plans to maintain its product offensive after introducing three new models this year: the Kylaq, Kodiaq, and Octavia RS. Regarding electric vehicles, Gupta cited policy uncertainties and ongoing global FTA discussions as barriers to launching EVs like the Enyaq. “As soon as we have a little bit of policy stability, we will announce our plans,” he said.

The company also recognizes CNG as a significant growth opportunity, particularly for the Kylaq. “CNG makes a lot of sense… It’s definitely an option, and we are planning to work on it,” Gupta confirmed, though specific timelines remain undetermined.

Skoda’s strong performance positions the brand for sustained growth in the evolving Indian automotive market .
