Doctors Criticise Zoho’s Sridhar Vembu Over Vaccine-Autism Claims

Zoho’s Sridhar Vembu Faces Doctor Backlash Over Vaccine-Autism Claims

Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu has drawn sharp criticism from medical professionals after suggesting vaccines may cause autism and questioning whether Indian children receive too many vaccinations.

Controversial Social Media Posts

On October 28, 2025, Vembu shared a study by the McCullough Foundation with his 391,000 X followers, claiming vaccination was the “most significant, preventable driver” of autism. He wrote: “Parents should take this analysis seriously. I believe there is increasing evidence that we are giving way too many vaccines to very young children. This is spreading in India too and we are seeing a rapid increase in autism in India.”

He further amplified unverified claims from X users who alleged their children developed autism or developmental delays after vaccination.

Medical Community Response

Doctors strongly condemned Vembu for using his platform to spread vaccine fears. Medical experts warned that vaccine hesitancy could lead to outbreaks of controlled diseases like polio and measles, potentially causing child fatalities.

Key context about autism rates:

  • No scientific evidence links vaccines to autism
  • Apparent autism increase reflects better diagnosis and reduced stigma
  • Improved awareness encourages more people to seek support

Previous Controversy

Earlier this year, Vembu faced similar criticism for defending cow urine consumption, prompting health experts to warn against the infection risks of drinking animal waste.
