New EU Border System: What Indian Travellers Need to Know
Starting October 12, Indian citizens and other non-EU travellers to Europe will face new digital border checks under the European Union’s Entry Exit System (EES). This system replaces manual passport stamping with automated digital registration.
Key Requirements for Travellers
The EES mandates that travellers provide:
- Fingerprint scans
- Facial images
- Digital passport registration
These checks will occur upon entry into EU countries and are designed to enhance border security across the Schengen area.
Which Countries Are Affected?
The system applies to all Schengen nations, including:
- Iceland
- Liechtenstein
- Norway
- Switzerland
Only Ireland and Cyprus have been exempted from implementing the new digital border system.
The phased rollout aims to streamline border control processes while maintaining security standards for non-EU visitors.
