Ahead of 2027 polls, govt supports ST community with incentives and doles

From an increase in incentives to establish Suvidha Kendra, a new scheme to take up sports, and measures to enhance agriculture, chief minister Pramod Sawant made provision to support the Scheduled Tribes community.

The move could be to pacify the ST community, which has resentment against BJP over their demands for political reservation for the next assembly election. The community demanded reservation of four constituencies in the assembly election.

In Aug last year, the Rajya Sabha passed the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Goa Assembly Constituencies Bill, 2025, and the road cleared to have ST reservation at the next assembly elections in the state.

The Lok Sabha passed the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Goa Assembly Constituencies Bill, 2025. The passing of the bill in both Houses of Parliament is likely to reserve around four seats for the ST community.

Sawant announced the establishment of Suvidha Kendra under the ‘Dharti Aaba Suvidha Kendra’ for villages with a tribal population of more than 35%. Sawant announced an increase in incentives for the ‘Atal Ashray Yojana’ for tribal people; for repairs, the incentive increased from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh, and for construction/reconstruction, it increased from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.

The chief minister announced the completion of the Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum by March 2027 at a cost of Rs 30 crore.

In agriculture, Sawant announced measures to enhance the value of cashew production. He proposed providing additional assistance to ST farmers, with an allocation of Rs 25 crore.

Amendments to the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Lakshya Siddhi Yojana for the benefit of ST students preparing for PG-NEET and GATE competitive exams was also announced, and made provision of Rs 4.5 crore.

Sawant announced the start of CM Janjatiya Majhe Ghar Yojana for the ST community people with a provision of Rs 1 crore.

The CM announced the establishment of Adhivasi Viksit Kendra at Viksit Corporation in the Kushavati district.
