CM Conrad bats for docs’ better housing in rural areas

CM Conrad K Sangma on Thursday noted that better housing facilities would encourage govt physicians and other health workers to stay and serve in remote rural areas in the state.

“Better accommodation will help retain doctors and nurses, ensuring consistent medical services,” he wrote on his social media handle after cementing foundations, worth Rs 2.98 crore, for renovation of Primary Health Centre (PHC) building, staff quarters and yoga-cum-meeting hall at the Mangsang PHC in East Garo Hills district.

“The PHC has served the people over three decades and the renovation is much needed to meet the growing healthcare needs in the area.

Strengthening primary healthcare will also reduce the burden on higher hospitals, making healthcare more accessible and affordable for our people,” the CM said.

The improvements aim to strengthen healthcare services and provide better facilities for both medical staff and residents of the surrounding villages.

Emphasising the importance of health services at the grassroots level, the CM said that strengthening healthcare infrastructure was a key priority with the govt.

He also outlined several other developmental initiatives for the area.
