When Rondale Moore’s mother Quincy Ricketts opened up about his premature birth: ‘Doctors weren’t sure he would live’

Before he became one of college football’s most explosive playmakers and an NFL wide receiver, Rondale Moore faced his first fight for survival within hours of being born.

According to an National Football League feature by Chase Goodbread, Moore was born five weeks premature on June 9, 2000, with underdeveloped lungs. This complication placed him in intensive care and left his family uncertain about his survival.

Moore’s mother, Quincy Ricketts, recalled the fear surrounding his birth and the uncertainty doctors conveyed.

“They couldn’t say for sure if he would live. They couldn’t tell me what I wanted to hear,” Ricketts said. “But he was a fighter.”
