What will Trump speak about in his address tonight? Details on big Iran war decision emerge

President Donald Trump is all set to deliver an address to the nation at 9pm ET on Wednesday, April 1. There is a lot of anticipation around the address, as it comes at a time when the POTUS has been talking about possibly “winding down” the US involvement in the ongoing Middle East conflict.

The address was teased by the White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt in a tweet on Tuesday. However, the subject of the address has been carefully kept secret by the White House, with no details officially revealed on Trump’s speech tonight.

However, details are pouring in about what the address will be about in a news report that cites sources in the White House. Initially, CNN reported that Trump will “reaffirm his intention” to end the war with Iran within the next three weeks. The outlet cited an unnamed White House source.

What Will Trump Say In His Address?

Now, more details on the content of Trump’s speech are coming in, with Politico reporting exclusively that Trump will state that the US’s objectives in the Iran war have been met and the US Army is planning to wind down operations in the region.

The Politico cited Steve Bannon, the 79-year-old’s former White House advisor, who said that Trump will “essentially declare victory” in the Iran war at tonight address.

“Two, three weeks, definable objectives. ‘I came, I saw, I conquered’ — and we are hanging around a couple of weeks to conquer some more — maybe even then a ceasefire, while reiterating that the Hormuz situation is the Gulf Emirates’ and the Europeans’ to solve, and declare victory,” Bannon said, about Trump’s speech.

Bannon added that Trump is also expected to take a dig at NATO allies for their refusal to join the US with military reinforcement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz that Iran has closed to the US, Israel and their allies in the ongoing war. He noted that Trump is expected to “dump” the problem of the Middle East conflict on “the NATO allies.”

Nonetheless, the details about the address remain officially unconfirmed.

Trump’s Approval Ratings At All Time Low

President Trump’s economic approval ratings have plummeted significantly since the beginning of the US-Israel-Iran conflict, according to a CNN poll. The new CNN poll, conducted with SSRS, showed that Trump’s economic approval rating is at 31% – a career low for the POTUS.

CNN, in its report on the poll, noted that the ratings have fallen as the Middle East conflict has led to an increase in fuel prices in the US, further increasing financial frustration for the average American voter.

Other approval ratings have also similarly declined for the 79-year-old. The Nate Silver’s Silver Bulletin average as of April 1 reports a net economic approval of -21.3, near its second-term low. Trump’s overall net approval is at a record -16.7 for his term.

An Economist/YouGov poll from late February to early March 2026 found his overall job approval at 38%, reflecting record-low support among independents at 26% approve versus 69% disapprove.
