Union Minister Piyush Goyal has held significant meetings with US and Australian officials to strengthen India’s economic partnerships in emerging technology sectors. The discussions aim to boost collaboration in areas where mutual progress and interest align.

India-US Technology Partnership

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met with a business delegation led by J. Stuart Adams, President of the Utah State Senate, to explore cooperation opportunities between India and the United States.

The minister shared on social media platform X: “Met the business delegation led by Hon. @JStuartAdams, President of the Utah State Senate, USA. Discussions were held on strengthening the collaboration in various domains like AI, clean energy, minerals, academia & research, biotech, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing, etc. Driven by innovation and youthful dynamism, there lies immense potential to shape a future of shared growth and prosperity.”

The conversation focused on identifying new collaboration avenues in sectors where both nations have demonstrated rapid advancement.

Australia Trade Talks

The Utah meeting followed Goyal’s visit to Melbourne, where he held bilateral discussions with Australian Trade and Tourism Minister Senator Don Farrell and Skills and Training Minister Andrew Giles.

These constructive talks aimed at unlocking the full potential of the India-Australia Economic Partnership through a comprehensive economic cooperation agreement.

Ministers reviewed progress in CECA negotiations and discussed ways to enhance bilateral trade partnerships. The discussions covered trade in goods, services, investment, and mutually beneficial cooperation across multiple sectors.

Strong Trade Performance

Recent data shows robust economic engagement between India and Australia. In FY 2024-25, bilateral merchandise trade reached USD 24.1 billion.

India’s exports demonstrated strong performance with 14 per cent growth in 2023-24 and an additional 8 per cent increase in 2024-25.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to early conclusion of a balanced and mutually beneficial CECA, building on the foundation of the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement that became operational in December 2022.

Diaspora Engagement

Minister Goyal also engaged with select business representatives from the Indian diaspora community in Australia, accompanied by Ministers Farrell and Giles.

This interaction highlighted opportunities for stronger commercial linkages and emphasized the diaspora’s important role in advancing bilateral economic relations between the two nations.
