Iran’s top military commander has warned the US about deploying troops in Iran, stating that if Washington conducts a ground incursion, not a single life will be spared.
“If the enemy conducts a ground incursion, not a single life will be spared,” PressTV quoted Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Army Amir Hatami as saying.
Amir Hatami’s remarks come amid reports that the Pentagon is preparing plans for the possibility of extended ground operations in Iran for several weeks, for which it has already moved troops.
Meanwhile, Iranian Army spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaqari has issued a warning to Israel and the US over any attack on Iran, saying they must pay the price for aggression.
“You must pay the price for the aggression that you initiated against the honorable and dear Muslim Iranian nation,” PressTV quoted Zolfaqari as saying.
Zolfaqari also refuted these claims, stating, “As we have already said, we tell the American-Zionist enemies that your information about our military power and equipment is incomplete. You know nothing about our vast and strategic capabilities,” PressTV quoted him as saying.
This development comes as US President Donald Trump has signaled that the United States will pull out of Iran “pretty quickly” now that it has achieved its core objective of preventing Tehran from ever acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Trump declared that Iran is now “incapable” of developing a nuclear bomb. He added that once American forces and their allies withdraw, the United States will remain ready to return for limited “spot strikes” if Tehran tries to rebuild its nuclear capabilities or poses a fresh threat to the region.
This comes as the United States has deployed a significant number of troops to the Gulf region amid rising tensions. According to The Washington Post, the Trump administration is actively discussing the possible seizure of Kharg Island and raids into other coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz to locate and destroy weapons capable of targeting commercial and military shipping.
Inside Iran, the state-run Tehran Times ran a front-page headline warning Washington: “Welcome to Hell.” The paper stated that any American troops entering Iranian territory would return only in coffins.
On the ground, Iranian authorities claim that more than one million citizens have volunteered to fight, with large numbers enlisting through the Basij militia and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The US-Israeli campaign against Iran has stretched into its second month. The war is now in its 33rd day, it began on February 28 after US and Israeli forces launched surprise coordinated airstrikes on Iranian targets. In retaliation, Iran launched strikes on US military infrastructure. Iran also closed the Strait of Hormuz to enemy shipping, which has triggered a severe global fuel crisis.
