A weather warning has been issued near Memphis, Tennessee, as a line of storms capable of producing a tornado moved through the region on Saturday.
According to the latest alert from the National Weather Service, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for northeastern Shelby County.
The alert stated that, “At 10:28 a.m. CST, a severe thunderstorm was located near Frayser, or near Bartlett, moving east at 25 mph.”
The alert warned, “Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.”
Areas that could be impacted include Bartlett, Millington, Memphis, Lakeland, Arlington, Ellendale, Frayser, Elmore Park, Brunswick, Lenow, Raleigh, Spring Lake, Bolton, and Lucy.
The warning also includes portions of Interstate 40 in Tennessee, between mile markers 5 and 9 and mile markers 13 and 23.
Eight dead as tornados slam Michigan and Oklahoma
At least eight people have died and a dozen others were injured after tornadoes tore through the central United States.
In Oklahoma, four people were killed as the storms intensified. Major County lost a mother and daughter, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt confirmed on X, while Okmulgee County authorities reported two fatalities in the town of Beggs.
In Michigan, tornadoes claimed four lives. The Branch County Sheriff’s Office said a twister touched down near Union City on Friday, killing three people and injuring 12. About 50 miles (80 kilometers) west, Cass County officials reported one death and several injuries after a tornado struck the area.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said on Friday evening she was activating a state emergency operations center “to coordinate an all-hands-on-deck response to severe weather in southwestern Michigan.”
