G20 Summit Initiatives

Speaking at the second session of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, PM Modi emphasized India’s commitment to sustainability and clean energy. “We propose a G20 Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative to promote recycling, urban mining, second-life batteries and related innovations,” he stated.

The Prime Minister also proposed a G20 Open Satellite Data Partnership that would make satellite data and analysis from G20 space agencies “more accessible for countries of the Global South”.

Addressing Climate and Food Security

Modi highlighted how climate change adversely affects agriculture and food security. He detailed India’s approach through “the world’s largest food security and nutrition support programme, the world’s largest health insurance scheme and crop insurance scheme”.

“India is also at the forefront of promoting Shree Anna or millets which are nutritious,” he added.

Disaster Risk Reduction Focus

Emphasizing global cooperation, Modi noted that India established the Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group during its G20 Presidency. “When it comes to disaster resilience, the approach has to be development centric not only response centric,” he emphasized.
