Iran Executes Man for Mossad Espionage in Qom

Iran Executes Man for Alleged Mossad Espionage

Iran has executed a man convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency in the city of Qom, according to the country’s official judiciary news agency.

Key Details of the Case

The unnamed individual was found guilty of “corruption on Earth” and “enmity against God” – charges carrying the death penalty under Iran’s Islamic penal code. Judicial authorities reported the execution occurred on Saturday.

According to the Mizan news agency, the accused began cooperating with Mossad in October 2023 and was arrested four months later in February 2024. The individual allegedly supplied sensitive information to Israeli handlers and conducted missions inside Iran on Mossad’s behalf.

Recent Pattern of Executions

This execution follows a series of similar cases in recent weeks:

  • On October 4, Iran executed six people accused of carrying out bombings and armed attacks in Khuzestan Province while allegedly working with Mossad
  • On September 29, authorities hanged Bahman Choobiasl at Arak Prison after convicting him of espionage for Israel

Iran’s judiciary stated such executions are essential to “protect national security” amid what officials describe as Israel’s ongoing infiltration and sabotage operations.

International Criticism

Human rights organizations and Western governments have condemned Iran’s frequent use of the death penalty, particularly in political and espionage cases. Activists allege many verdicts rely on coerced confessions and closed-door trials without independent legal representation.

Tehran maintains that those executed were genuine agents of “hostile intelligence services” involved in terrorism and sabotage. Iranian officials have long accused Israel of orchestrating covert operations including assassinations of nuclear scientists and cyberattacks on strategic sites.
