Trump Declares US an ‘Economic Miracle,’ Defends Tariffs

Former President Donald Trump has labeled the United States an “economic miracle” and asserted that critics of his tariff policies were “all wrong.” He made these remarks while addressing top business leaders in Washington, positioning his economic record as a key pillar of his 2024 presidential campaign.

Key Promises to Business Leaders

Speaking at the Business Roundtable, which represents over 200 CEOs, the presumptive Republican nominee outlined his economic agenda. He vowed to extend the 2017 tax cuts and implement significant regulatory reductions if elected in November.

“We are an economic miracle,” Trump said. “We are the talk of the world.”

Robust Defense of Tariff Strategy

Trump strongly defended his use of tariffs on imports from China and other nations. He framed them as essential tools for national economic security.

“The critics of tariffs were all wrong,” Trump stated. “Tariffs are a way of protecting our country and our workers.”

Contrast with Biden Campaign

The speech sets the stage for a sharp economic debate with President Joe Biden. The Biden campaign has consistently criticized Trump’s past policies, arguing they primarily benefited corporations and the wealthy while hurting average working families.

Debate Preview

With the first presidential debate scheduled for next week, the economy is poised to be a central topic of discussion, highlighting the starkly different approaches of the two candidates.
