A 15-year-old boy was shot in the neck Friday evening in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, after chasing a thief who allegedly stole his jacket during a clothing sale arranged through social media, police said.
The incident occurred near Kings Highway and Bay Parkway around 7:30 p.m. The teen was hospitalized and is in stable condition. The suspects fled on foot, and no arrests have been reported.
The shooting comes amid a wave of violent incidents involving teenagers across New York City. Earlier this week, another 15-year-old was arrested for bringing a loaded gun to Long Island City High School in Queens.
Authorities found the firearm in his backpack while responding to an assault report.
He and two other teens were charged in connection with that assault.
City schools have seen a string of alarming incidents in recent days. Less than a week ago, a 16-year-old student was caught with a loaded 9-millimeter handgun at Cascades High School on the Lower East Side.
The day prior, an 11-year-old girl allegedly stabbed a 12-year-old boy at IS 218 in the Bronx.
Police continue to investigate both the Brooklyn shooting and the Queens school case.
Officials are urging parents and students to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, as authorities work to curb the recent surge in teen violence across the city.
