Swiggy partners Sarvam AI to bring India’s first multilingual voice-based shopping feature: What is it and how it works

Swiggy has partnered with Sarvam AI to introduce multilingual voice-led shopping across its Food Delivery, Instamart and Dineout services. This new partnership will allow Swiggy users to place orders by speaking in their preferred language. The feature is designed to handle the entire process, starting from discovery to checkout, through a conversational interface.

The integration uses Sarvam’s AI models trained on Indian-language data to support voice interactions across 11 languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi. The system enables users to order food, shop for groceries or book dining options without relying on traditional app navigation.

How Swiggy’s Sarvam AI-powered voice-led shopping feature works

The partnership brings two primary use cases. One allows users to place orders via a phone-based interface, removing the need for an app, a download, or internet access. This feature was demonstrated at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi for Instamart orders.

The second integrates Swiggy’s services into Sarvam’s chat platform, Indus, enabling conversational commerce through AI-native interfaces. Users can interact with an AI assistant to search, select and complete purchases using voice commands.

Razorpay supports UPI and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) payments, enabling safe payments without interrupting the conversation.

The goal of the collaboration is to break down language barriers in online shopping, since most platforms currently support only English or a limited number of regional languages. The companies want to make it easier for people in different areas to order and browse by adding multilingual voice features.

The move also builds on Swiggy’s earlier efforts to integrate AI into its platform, including Model Context Protocol (MCP)-based features and agent-led payment systems.

Commenting on the partnership, Swiggy CTO Madhusudhan Rao, said, “At Swiggy, our mission is to deliver unparalleled convenience to our consumers. After rolling out MCP integrations across our services, the next step was to make these experiences truly accessible to every Indian. True accessibility means meeting users where they are, in the languages they speak. By leveraging Sarvam’s sovereign models built for India’s diverse linguistic landscape, alongside secure payments infrastructure, we are creating a distinctly India-first experience. Soon, users will be able to simply ask their AI assistant in their preferred language to order food or groceries, and reserve tables, with the AI agent seamlessly handling discovery, ordering, and checkout.”
